To say “survival and preparedness” is just one thing couldn’t be farther from the truth. True, the priorities overlap. Fire & shelter building, water collecting & purification, Food, etc. Our needs are the same: water, food, shelter, medical care and maintenance, and rescue or relief (if that’s even an option). But the ways we get there are very different. Urban survival is very different from surviving in the Appalachian wilderness. Just as Mojave Desert survival is very different from surviving in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Literally everything about surviving in these divergent areas is very different. In the desert you might have to dig down several feet to get water from a dry riverbed, that is, opaque brown silty water, whereas in the PNW all you have to do is wait a few minutes and the rains will come then bingo! Free water! Or just look around, there are streams everywhere. There is an abundance of animals in those forests and there are animals in the desert. They’re a little harder to find and take a different approach but they are there. Fire is easier in the desert, everything’s dry, but finding an abundant supply of firewood is a challenge. Finding dry wood to burn in the PNW can present a challenge. I’d like to look at the different areas and what you might need to survive.
